Casey Trial May Turn Downtown Into 'Fairground'

City, County Meeting To Discuss Crowds This Week

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A variety of city and county agencies will meet for the first time Thursday to discuss how to manage crowds for the Casey Anthony murder trial, which is scheduled to begin next month.

George and Cindy Anthony's former attorney, Brad Conway, said he expects plenty of vendors downtown trying to make a quick buck off the trial. During the time he worked for the Anthonys, he tried to stop people from making a profit off of Caylee dolls and related merchandise.

"One of my biggest challenges was shutting down people trying to profit from Caylee's death," he said.

Conway said he expects that an empty lot across from the courthouse that will turn into a media compound will take on a carnival atmosphere. "I think it'll define circus in that field in front of the courthouse. It's going to become a fairground," he said.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer's spokeswoman Bsaid the task force meeting this week will address the challenges surrounding the trial.
